Albemarle County, Va., and the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority have revealed plans for a new $2.6 million closed-canopy transfer station, which will be built on a parcel of land at the existing Ivy Materials Utilization Center.
The new transfer station is slated to open in December 2018.

Albemarle County and the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority have announced plans for a new and improved transfer station.
The existing transfer station from which solid waste is collected and transported to a landfill has been operating in Albemarle County since the late nineties.
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality now says the current facility no longer meets regulations because of its open-air nature.
