New York Town Passes Solid Waste Facility Ban

Town lawmakers unanimously approved a solid waste management facilities ban on Thursday night, but the owner of a Newfield garbage-hauling company said the law won't stop his plans.

Alternative Waste Services owner Bob Mente has been at the center of a more than 21/2-year battle over his proposed waste transfer station on Bishop Road.

In July 2013, Newfield Town Board passed a one-year moratorium on waste transfer stations, and then lawmakers voted unanimously to extend that moratorium for nine months in July 2014.
