Evanston has agreed to settle a lawsuit that a waste disposal company brought against the city after it imposed a fee on the company's waste transfer station.

The City Council voted unanimously Monday in support of a resolution that called for the city to negotiate a settlement of the suit, which was filed was in late 2011.

Advanced Disposal, then known as Veolia, brought the lawsuit in response to city actions through 2010 and 2011, including a $2 per ton fee the city imposed on waste transferred through the company's waste transfer station at 1711 Church St.

The waste station has been in operation since 1984 when it was granted permits from the Environmental Protection Agency.
