Albemarle, Va., Supervisors Mull Options for Ivy Transfer Station

Albemarle County’s top official has recommended that $1.2 million of the proposed 2016 capital improvement budget go toward work at the waste management and recycling facility in Ivy.

Based on the recommendations of Draper Aden Associates and Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, two consulting firms hired by the county, the board on Wednesday reviewed options to build new facilities or make improvements to the current Ivy Road Materials Utilization Center.

The Ivy transfer station, which is owned and operated by the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority, was established more than a decade ago as a short-term solution when the Ivy landfill was filled and closed in 2001.
