Our industry continues to see an upsurge of textiles in the waste stream. Being able to identify, categorize and manage these materials will prove useful as we handle them in facilities and strive to identify innovative opportunities. Textile scientist Dr. Joanne Brasch, with prior teaching appointments at University of California, Davis, California State University, Sacramento and Donghua University in Shanghai, will lead a sensory-infused textile presentation to give attendees hands-on experiences with fiber identification and fabric constructions that ultimately influence recyclability of textiles. Attendees will learn about the various textile categories and fiber types as reference for best management practices and frontiers in innovative recovery methods. As a staff member of the California Product Stewardship Council, Dr. Brasch will end on policy updates and recommendations for engaging producers in end-of-life solutions for complicated waste streams, such as textiles and clothing.

Speaker:
Joanne Brasch, Special Projects Manager, California Product Stewardship Council
