In order to shift the world to a more circular economy, there is little that can be done from a consumer's end, says an LA Times editorial.

Ellen MacArthur says that the entire system needs to change in order to influence how consumers behave. Everything needs to be redesigned, including the packaging.

Extended producer responsibility is crucial for a more circular system, with the addition of "right to repair" laws. "Sin" laws in which consumers pay more for plastic packaging and other products also is an option.
