A report from the United Nations is guiding the way for businesses and others to follow and maintain a more sustainable trajectory and become more planet conscious overall.

After four years of research, the United Nations’ Authentic Sustainability Assessment report, released in November of 2022, points out how current practices in business are inauthentic and are unable to achieve true sustainability. The report lays out a way for business leaders to stay within planetary limits for the continue safe development humanity without depleting the Earth’s resources.

Sustainable Development Performance Indicators, a concept featured in the report, works to measure the sustainability performance of businesses, non-profits, and other economic organizations using a new approach. That approach works to address conditions that compromise sustainable development by respecting all planetary limits.

These new indicators would compare companies using a scientifically established, context-based sustainability approach.
