Sand Land Corp. is seeking to expand its solid waste management facility and mining operation in Bridgehampton, N.Y.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) is holding a hearing on the request. Sand Land hopes to expand the site by 4.9 acres The site covers more than 50 acres and reaches a depth of 160 feet. The expansion would allow increasing the depth to 200 feet.
The facilty has a projected volume of 2 million cubic yards of sand and gravel to be mined. Sitre reclamation is required as mining is complete in mined areas, according to the NYDEC. The mine has a life expectancy of 25 years.
The expansion has gotten strong local opposition, according to a news release.
