Indiana County, Pa., Officials Oppose Fracking Waste Disposal

The Indiana County commissioners Wednesday adopted a resolution urging state and federal environmental agencies to reject permits for disposing of hydraulic fracking waste from natural gas and oil drilling in underground injection wells in Indiana County.

The resolution is a show of support for Grant Township supervisors and residents who successfully blocked a drilling company’s plan to dispose of fracking fluids in an exhausted natural gas well near East Run.

“Our obligation, as a county, is to rally around municipalities” in such issues, said commission Chairman Rodney Ruddock.
