Current and former Fairfield, CT town officials were arrested for illegally dumping hazardous materials – PCBs, lead and other hazardous materials – and hiding the extent of the contamination.
The town hired Osprey Environmental Engineering in 2016 to clean up the site and construct a berm around it to prevent adjacent properties from becoming contaminated. The company in tandem with town officials conspired to bury the contaminated materials into the berm.
The Fairfield, CT police department began an investigation in 2017. Officials estimate the cleanup of the site will cost $5 to $10 million.
