More than 4 billion solar panels will be at the end of their useful lives by 2050, and little has been done to allow for the recycling of the panels.

The materials recovered from the panels could potentially be valued at $15 billion. Design considerations need to be taken into account for the end-of-life in order to extract critical materials that would otherwise come from the Earth.

In other words, "waste should be thought of as a resource."
