A 56-year-old construction worker died in an industrial accident at the Bensfort Landfill site on Tuesday afternoon.

Peterborough County OPP said the man died in a “mishap” at the dump, where a massive new trash pit is under construction.

The accident happened around 2 p.m., but OPP Const. Jason Folz didn’t release the name of the deceased on Tuesday night. He stated that police were still notifying family members of the death.

At about 5 p.m., emergency crews and heavy equipment were still in the pit.
