A woman was killed in the Bronx, N.Y., on January 8 after being struck by a City of New York Department of Sanitation (DSNY) salt spreader. According to the New York Post, the operator of the truck drove off after hitting the woman.

According to police, the 33-year-old driver was making a left turn when he struck the woman around 6:35 a.m. ET. Police said the driver left the scene but was later taken into police custody.

DSNY officials stated the driver has been suspended and they are conducting an investigation.

A city Sanitation salt spreader struck and killed a woman in The Bronx Tuesday morning — and the operator drove off, possibly unaware of what had happened, police said.

The 33-year-old driver was making a left turn at Willis Avenue and East 138th Street in Mott Haven when he struck the woman at around 6:35 a.m., according to police.

He left the scene, but was later taken into custody at the 40th Precinct station house, law-enforcement sources said.
