DSNY Truck Causes Three-car Crash

A City of New York Department of Sanitation (DSNY) truck caused a three-car crash on Saturday night, February 23, on the Belt Parkway in Queens when it smashed into the Merrick Boulevard overpass, according to a New York Post report. Commercial vehicles are not permitted on the parkway.

The compactor on the back of the truck came loose and crushed two cars behind it, injuring four people, one critically, according to police and radio transmissions from the scene.

According to reports, all westbound lanes in the area were closed for several hours, and officials say there was no structural damage to the overpass. Department of Transportation officials are investigating.

Four people were injured and traffic was snarled after a city sanitation truck overturned on the Belt Parkway in Queens Saturday night.

The truck was heading west on the Belt Parkway near Merrick Blvd. in Laurelton about 8:15 p.m. when it toppled over, pinning two vehicles, authorities said.
