In an effort to reduce conflicts between Florida homeowners and bears, Waste Pro and state wildlife officials have jointly signed a memorandum of understanding that will allow residents in northwest Florida to gain access to more affordable bear-resistant trash cans.
Florida is not the only state faced with bear issues. In Los Alamos, N.M., a garbage truck driver accidently loaded a bear into the back of his truck while collecting garbage from a dumpster and the City of Boulder, Colo., put in place an ordinance that requires people to obtain bear-resistant trash cans.
WFTV has more:
Waste Pro and state wildlife officials announced a new partnership to get bear-proof trash cans in more places, in an effort to reduce conflicts between homeowners and bears.
The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding that would make it more affordable for residents in northwest Florida to get bear-resistant trash cans.
Wildlife leaders hope it sets an example for other service providers in the state.
