The city of Sidney is considering a “pay-as-you-throw” program that could save residents money on their garbage pickup costs.
With pay-as-you-throw or PAYT, residents would use special bags purchased from local stores. Customers would control their costs by increased recycling, which means they would have to buy fewer bags.
PAYT will be among the options when the city advertises for bids for a solid waste contract in November. The current contract expires in May. Other options will be for service identical to the current one and an alternate for automated pickup with matching 95-gallon containers for each resident.
