More than a dozen county-issued garbage cans have been reported stolen in the Springhill, Auburn, Eggville and Lake Piomingo areas.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal that at least 15 of the wheeled dumpsters were taken, and most thefts occurred Nov. 25-27.
The Lee County Solid Waste Department said the cans cost $52.56 each. Johnson said the theft of nine would be a total of $508.68 and push the charge from a misdemeanor to a felony.
