Victoria, Australia, to Transform Recycling System

Victoria, Australia, to Transform Recycling System
Victoria has launched a $96.5 million package to fix its waste and recycling industry.

In an effort to get its waste and recycling system back on track, Victoria, Australia, has launched a $96.5 million package, which includes grants for sorting and processing recycling, grants for technology, funding for waste-to-energy initiatives and more.

This package aims to help Victoria bounce back from challenges like SKM Recycling’s financial crisis and Phoenix Environmental’s materials acceptance ban, which both had a major impact on the area’s recycling system.

The Guardian has more information:

The Victorian government will double its $28m in grants for businesses to sort and process recycling as part of a $96.5m package to fix the state’s waste industry.

Another $30m will be opened up for grants for technology to create new products from recyclable materials such as glass, plastic, organics, electronic waste, concrete, brick and rubber.

A further $10m will be offered to businesses to recycle more in their daily operations, and $10m will go towards waste-for-energy initiatives for processors of waste that can’t be recycled.
