A rising sea level and extreme weather due to climate change are taking a toll on Louisiana’s shoreline. To help with the ongoing issue, a New Orleans recycling initiative, Glass Half Full, is collecting as many glass bottles as possible to create sand to restore the coast.

Glass Half Full, started Franziska Trautmann and Max Steitz in 2020, had a goal to recycle glass in Lousiana. The duo started off by pulverizing glass bottles in their backyard but after successful GoFundMe campaign, Glass Half Full has moved into a proper facility and is now working with larger machinery to convert over 150,000 pounds of glass into sand per month.
