Taking Technology to a New Level… Trash Style

The City of Sequim in Washington recently began installing automatic trash and recycling stations around the city streets. 

These new compact trash stations have high-tech functionality such as being powered by solar, have sensor-equipped mechanisms, and can notify the city when it needs to be emptied. The bins can hold between five to 10 times more trash than the traditional ones.

The mechanisms inside the bin “eliminates waste overflows, visible waste, windblown litter, and critter access and provides a cleaner, greener, safer pedestrian space,” says the city.
