Sprite Will Ditch Green Bottles to Improve Recycling

After 60 years of Sprite's iconic green-colored bottles, the Coca-Cola Company has decided to begin using clear bottles for the lemon-lime flavored soda. Beginning Aug. 1, 2022, the company will make the switch as a means of making the bottles more recyclable for longer.

The green bottles were always recyclable, states Julian Ochoa, the CEO of R3CYCLE, a plastic recycling company working with Coca-Cola. "The clear bottles will allow for a longer recyclable life."

The green bottles used to be recycled into clothes or carpeting, but will now be able to be recycled back into bottles, allowing for more recycles.
