Medical marijuana is big business for states – generating millions of dollars. It also creates a tremendous amount of waste. 

Cannabis Can, a nonprofit with ties to Ohio’s medicinal cannabis industry, is interested in creating a recycling program for hard-to-recycle items. They recently brought its idea to the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy, which regulates marijuana dispensaries. 

The goal is for Cannabis Can to collaborate with TerraCycle, a company specializing in items that most municipal recycling programs can’t handle, but the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy needs to approve the plan. 

If the plan is approved there will be a multi-stage program that will begin with recycling batteries.
