Cities and states across the country are setting increasingly ambitious goals when it comes to handling municipal solid waste. A handful of cities have set zero-waste goals. Others are not going that far, but are looking to divert the majority of their waste streams from landfills. Some municipalities are focusing on organics and looking to promote composting and waste-to-energy generation. Other places have considered banning plastic bottles and bags.
