The city of Minneapolis is moving ahead with a plan to cut down on city-wide waste.

On Friday, the Minneapolis City Council approved goals calling for the city to recycle and compost 50 percent of its waste by 2020 and 80 percent by 2030. City officials say the resolution will help them meet new recycling goals set by the state and Hennepin County back in 2014.
