PHOENIX (May 24, 2022) – It is with great sadness that Leadpoint Business Services announces the passing of Brian Haney, Vice President, Safety & Compliance. Brian lost his battle with cancer on April 26. He was 57 years old.

Brian joined Leadpoint in 2013 as the first member of the company’s executive team.

“I wanted to send a clear message to the organization that safety is important,” said Frank Ramirez, Leadpoint’s CEO and President. “But more than that, I wanted a safety leader who was genuine and cared deeply about their purpose. We found that in Brian.”

Over the years, Brian transformed Leadpoint’s safety culture into a world-class program. His A-B-Cs of Safety was a hallmark of his approach and something he spoke about often at Leadpoint and various industry events. Leadpoint’s Stop Work Authority, available to any associate at any site, was another of Brian’s contributions. In 2019, he envisioned and launched LiveSafe, a four-point safety philosophy designed to help Leadpoint associates connect with safety on a personal level and understand what they can do to be safe and work and at home. It was followed by Start Safe, LiveSafe, a program to build strong safety practices during the first 90 days of Leadpoint’s presence at a new site.

“These are just a few of the contributions Brian created to build safer workplaces and behaviors at all the sites we support,” Ramirez said. “None of this work would have been possible without his leadership and genuine commitment to safety. We are extremely grateful for the time Brian was here and what he accomplished for our company and the recycling industry.”

When he joined Leadpoint, Brian brought with him more than 25 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety and more than 15 years of direct safety leadership in the recycling industry. Prior to joining Leadpoint, Brian worked in safety and compliance roles for a Fortune 500 waste and recycling company, a used oil and antifreeze recycler, an international chemical distributor, and an EHS consultant. He was a member of the ANSI Z245 Standards Committee for the Waste and Recycling Industry, NWRA (National Waste and Recycling Association) Safety Committee, and SWANA (Solid Waste Associate of North America) where he helped develop the “5 to Stay Alive” program for MRFs. Brian was a trusted presenter at SWANApalooza and Waste Expo events and worked tirelessly to improve safety across the recycling industry.

Brian earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial technology and master’s degree in hazardous materials and waste management, both from Arizona State University. He is survived by his wife Jennifer and son Benjamin.

Brian’s family will hold a private celebration of his life next month. They noted Brian’s commitment to Faith Comes by Hearing and Folds of Honor and suggests supporting these organizations as a tribute to his legacy.
