The amount of plastic waste produced each day in the hair and beauty industry is, well, hair raising.

The latest available figures indicate that in 2018, 7.9 billion units of plastic packaging were manufactured for the beauty industry, according to Euromonitor International.

Brooklyn-based Eva NYC's Reduce, Reuse, Restyle initiative aims to change the way consumers experience sustainability in hair care. The brand recently rolled out aluminum packaging across its entire product portfolio. This complements Eva NYC's mission and values, which include a line that is certified cruelty-free, vegan and free from sulfates, parabens and phthalates.

"By moving to 93% aluminum, recyclable forever components, still at an affordable price, our customers can trust they're making the right choice for their hair and now for the planet," says Jane Moran, Eva NYC brand vice president.

In this episode of Stef Talks Trash, Moran tells us more about the plastic-packaging dilemma in the hair and beauty industry and where producer responsibility can assist consumers with recycling.
