The city of Evanston enjoys a recycling rate greater than the nation's - landing at 33 percent.

The success of the program is thanks to the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County, or SWANCC, which organizes an annual e-waste, paper and special waste recycling event.

The authority reported that residents of the city diverted nearly 1,000 pounds of recyclable item from landfill in 2021.
