The U.S. fast-casual restaurant chain Chipotle has launched a line of upcycled, “responsibly sourced” clothing and accessories.
The line, dubbed Chipotle Goods, consists of T-shirts, hoodies, jackets, leggings, hats, phone cases, gym bags, and baby blankets.
Virtually everything in the line is made with organic cotton, except for a few items made of recycled polyester, and all proceeds will be given to organizations that participate in sustainable fashion or farming.
The upcycled aspect of the Chipotle Goods line pertains to the items made of organic cotton, which are naturally dyed using avocado pits collected from Chipotle restaurants. The company produces some 300 million avocado pits annually. Depending how long they are boiled in water, the avocado pits produce several shades of pink and peach dye, according to the company.
