Newark, Md., Considers Outsourcing Trash

The city of Newark is once again exploring the controversial idea of outsourcing its trash collection to a private waste hauler.

City spokesman Ricky Nietubicz said officials predict the move could save the city as much as $1 million the first year due to avoided equipment investments and operational savings. Each year after that, the city could save up to $700,000.
