Montreal Launches Pilot Program to Recycle Polystyrene

Article-Montreal Launches Pilot Program to Recycle Polystyrene

Montreal and the Mississauga, Ontario-based Canadian Plastics Industry Association have launched a pilot program to recycle polystyrene.

The program is aimed particularly at those who are moving, representing nearly 60,000 tons of waste annually. Residents can bring the polystyrene to the Ecocentre LaSalle, according to a news release.

The goal of the pilot program is to recover polystyrene not yet recovered by conventional collection of recycling.

The pilot program runs until Sept. 30.

The material can be recycled into photo frames, coat hangers, flower pots and boxes, cornices, molded parts, insulating panels, protective packaging and office supplies, among other items.
