New York Unveils Recycling Plate

New York -- The state Motor Vehicles Department is unveiling a new "New York Recycles" license plate today at the area's solid waste and recycling conference and trade show at the Sagamore resort on Lake George.

According to State Motor Vehicles Commissioner Ray Martinez, the plate is designed to support the recycling cause. Fees for special plates vary, but most have a 43-dollar initial cost and a 25-dollar annual fee. Currently, New York has several dozen custom plates. Some represent organizations, such as the Hibernians, the Firemen's Association, and Harley Owners, or support causes as pet population control, domestic violence awareness, cancer and diabetes research.
