More than 4,000 homes in Hutchinson, Minn. have access to weekly curbside organics recycling.
Creekside Soils, who operates the program in partnership with the city, says it is experiencing high levels of contamination. The organics operators conducted a contamination study and found that out of the 18,480 pounds collected on a single day, about 2,900 pounds of materials were not organics materials.
Hutchinson implemented a project to increase participation in the curbside program while decreasing contamination.
