Lifespan of Alabama Landfill Dwindling

The city of Hartselle is back in the familiar position of having to decide what to do with its landfill.

Public Works Director Daxton Maze said the landfill has 24 to 36 months of operation left before it reaches capacity. Maze said he has been evaluating ways to extend the landfill’s life.

The landfill, at 99 Lovelady St. N.W., sits on 31.3 acres.

Mayor Don Hall said the city first started talking about ways to increase the landfill’s lifespan 15 to 17 years ago. At the time, the city wanted to purchase additional land north of the landfill, but it didn’t happen because of public protest.
