Douglas County, Ore., Commissioners Explore Charging Landfill Fees

Douglas County Commissioners will take another look at charging fees for those who use both the landfill and transfer sites around the county when they meet on Wednesday morning. 

The board will have a public hearing and the second reading of an ordinance that would add the fees. Douglas County Public Works Director Robb Paul says that in the current budget the county is spending around $2.6 million to keep the landfill free. Paul cites the budget shortfall the county is dealing with and the need to find the funds to close the landfill in a few years as two reasons why charging for its use makes sense.
