Four air monitors around trouble-plagued Fenimore Landfill will be removed next week, according to township and state Department of Environmental Protection sources.Monitors to detect potentially toxic hydrogen-sulfide gas — first smelled at the landfill in late 2012 — were placed around the site to monitor the gas, which at times spiked to levels considered unhealthy to neighboring residents.
“Results from the offsite air monitoring stations since May 2015 demonstrate that the landfill gas-collection and treatment system is working effectively to capture and control potential fugitive landfill emissions,” the DEP announced in a recent statement.
