New Cat Mh3027 Wheeled Material Handler Delivers Productive, Reliable Performance Via Its Advanced Power Train And Efficient Hydraulics

The new Cat MH3027 is the fourth and smallest in the series of new wheeled material handlers that Caterpillar is introducing to global markets in the greater than 25-metric-ton size class. At 28 500 kg (62,832 lb), the MH3027 delivers superior performance in a smaller package—specifically a swing radius that is 213 mm (8.3 inches) less than the Cat MH3037.

The new Cat material handlers are purpose-built from the ground up to work productively and reliably in solid waste and scrap recycling. The MH3027 is available in configurations for waste handling, featuring a straight stick, and for scrap handling, featuring a drop nose stick. A debris resistant cooling package with a hydraulic, variable speed, auto reversing fan and plug resistant coolers equips the machine for challenging conditions.

The MH3027 also provides superior protection and convenience for the operator. The Cat cab avoidance system, using sensors on the front linkage, is standard equipment and helps ensure that the work tool will not contact the cab. New with the MH3027 model, customers can select from two hydraulic cab riser options. Customers can choose the cab-to-platform configuration or customers can choose the patented “ground level entry and exit” with a step-in cab that lowers to the front or the side of the machine to enhance convenience and safety for operators and service personnel. The hydraulic cab riser takes the operator to 18’0” feet for optimal jobsite visibility. Additionally, the cab features joystick steering control, which eliminates the steering wheel and opens the front view for the operator. A standard rearview camera also expands sight lines with optional side view camera.

The MH3027 is powered by a Cat C7.1 ACERT engine that meets US EPA Tier 4 Final/EU Stage IV emissions standards. Operation of the emissions control system is completely transparent to the operator—with no downtime for particulate filter regeneration. The engine features an electronically controlled, mechanically actuated, unit-injector fuel system that uses multiple-injection fuel delivery for optimum power and economy in all operating situations. The MH3027 configuration is rated at 129 kW (173 hp).

The intelligent, load-sensing hydraulic system delivers power when needed and reduces fuel burn. High strength structural steel and advanced welding techniques ensure structural integrity. And enhanced serviceability features, such as auto lube for the upper area of the machine and centralized manual lube for the lower, simplify maintenance.

Hydraulics and drive train

Using a closed-center, one-pump, load-sensing implement hydraulic system with electro-hydraulic pilot control, the hydraulic pump generates only as much oil flow and pressure as required for the application, yielding powerful, rapid response and fuel-saving efficiency. To further enhance overall hydraulic power and efficiency, the machine regenerates boom-down oil flow, reducing the volume of oil the pump must produce.

True four wheel mechanical drive provides excellent maneuvering performance even on unimproved terrain. A variable displacement hydraulic motor coupled with a two-speed transmission provides high- and low-speed travel with creeper speed capability for excellent control due to the infinitely variable travel speed. An oscillating rear axle provides smooth travel over rough terrain. The rear axle is equipped with an oscillation lock that provides greater stability during light duty material handling without stabilizers deployed.

Serviceability and work tools

Durable fiberglass gull-wing panels supported by gas-filled cylinders provide ready access to the routine maintenance points in spacious, lighted compartments. Service panels are located on the top, left and right side of the machine. Handrails and anti-slip surfaces help technicians perform their work safely and efficiently.

To assist customers in improving jobsite efficiency and managing the MH3027 for optimum return on investment, Cat Connect offers LINK and DETECT technologies. Product Link helps fleet owners track locations, hours, fuel consumption, idle time, events and diagnostic codes by wirelessly reporting all via the online VisionLink® user interface to help lower owning and operating costs.

The MH3027 can handle a variety of work tools. The machine features medium-pressure flow from a separate valve for tool rotation and a high-pressure circuit from the main pump to operate the open/close functions of typical tools, such as orange-peel grapples, clamshells and log grapples.

A separate pump is used to provide hydraulic power to operate a generator for an optional scrap magnet. The generator features a patented Cat solid-state magnet controller that has a sorting feature to aid the operator.

Machinex Enhances Its Product Range With Its Optical Sorting Mach Hyspec

A Machine will be featuring in booth 3223 at Waste Expo. Come and see us for more détails.

Machinex Group is proud to introduce its new optical sorting machine, the MACH HyspecTM. Machinex has been a leader in advanced sorting technologies for over 30 years, and now, with this new and powerful optical sorting machine, Machinex can offer all sorting solutions under one roof.

Using a technology made more efficient by a high speed, short wave infra-red (SWIR) hyperspectral detection system, the MACH HyspecTM was developed by a specialized work cell of the Machinex Research & Development department. The different models available can detect different material types, such as plastics (PET, HDPE, PVC’ LDPE’ PP PS, etc.), and also fiber products, including carton containers detection, wood product recognition, and wood by grade (natural versus painted). In addition, the optical sorter can have the option of color recognition and a metal detector. The MACH HyspecTM can be used in different types of material recovery facilities, such as single-stream, construction & demolition, municipal solid waste, and other applications.

This machine exceeds some of the industry standards by using a high speed detection system that takes less than 1 millisecond to analyze the belt, allowing for the processing of a high volume of material in a short amount of time. The higher depth field detection of 430 mm on the belt has an unsurpassed efficiency on ejection of rolling objects. Maintenance Managers will also appreciate this machine because there are no moving parts used in the optical and detection system. The risk of fire is reduced to a minimum by unique, patent-pending light system technology, creating diffused light that generates low heat on the material passing through the sorter.

Cutting-Edge Waste Management Software Debuts at WasteExpo

DOP, the most innovative waste management software to hit the market, is debuting at WasteExpo 2015, booth 1444, in Las Vegas, NV, June 2nd – 4th.

DOP, or Dynamic Operating Program, meets three major goals of waste companies everywhere: it streamlines data management, accelerates accounts receivables, and decreases operating costs. It’s the latest and best software solution available to garbage companies today, no matter their size.

In addition to meeting company goals, the experience of using DOP is pleasantly stress-free. There’s no need to fear learning a new software program; DOP is user-friendly and comprehensive. Navigating from module to module is easy and intuitive, and it offers everything from routing optimization to a customer web portal to printing services!

Waste companies come in all sizes, and, therefore, so does DOP. Clients can choose from 3 different tiers of the software, each building upon the prior tier. The first tier is DOP's Stand-Alone option, which includes the client app’s most basic modules, i.e. accounts, time reporting, etc. The second tier, DOP Plus, adds to the client app’s modules with route optimization, as well as incorporates a customer web portal. The third tier encompasses the second with the addition of a mobile app that allows clients to send route sheets to their drivers electronically and customers to access their accounts from a mobile device.

Today’s customer base is technologically savvy. DOP will bring waste companies up-to-speed with their customers’ expectations.

Its creator and the CEO of DOP Software, Andrew Dopheide, knows the garbage industry well: “Growing up in a family where both my grandfather and dad owned their own garbage businesses, where I helped out on the route, in the office, or wherever I was needed, I couldn’t help but learn the ins and outs of what it takes to run a successful garbage company.” Dopheide took that knowledge and ran with it, developing an innovative software program built specifically for the waste industry and its needs. “I built DOP for my dad. His software was old and outdated. I’m sure he’s not the only garbage company looking to take advantage of today’s technology to give their company an edge. I think once they see it, other waste industry professionals will recognize what it can do for them,” stated Dopheide.

Garbage companies looking for an updated, comprehensive software should look no further: DOP Software is the solution.

Preco Electronics Announces a New Addition to their Family of Active Blind Spot Safety Tools for Heavy Equipment and Class 2-8 Commercial Fleets: Wireless WorkSight PreView.

Like the existing PreView family of collision warning systems, the wireless WorkSight PreView system utilizes Preco’s patented pulsed radar technology to detect objects in the operator’s blind spot. Once something is detected, the driver receives an audible and visual active warning of the detection in the cab, giving them ample time to react.

The new wireless WorkSight system reduces installation time by more than half by eliminating the need to install heavy duty cables along the chassis of the machine.

According to Peter Evans, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, “This is a game changer. With the wireless system our customers can install twice as fast on their own, our OEM partners can reduce the number of cables and connections at build, and everyone gets the consistent detection they’ve come to trust with the PreView name.”

Parks & Sons Achieves 80% Reduction in Payment Processing Time by Moving Receivables to the Cloud

Financial Transmission Network Inc. (FTNI), a leading provider of integrated payment processing solutions, and Parks & Sons of Sun City, an established waste management firm celebrating 50 years serving Sun City, AZ, and the greater Phoenix valley, today announced the successful implementation of ETran, FTNI’s integrated receivables processing solution.

In business for over 50 years, Parks & Sons serves more than 120,000 customers and averages 2,000 remittances a day. FTNI’s enhanced remote deposit capture (RDC) module provides the company unprecedented speed, flexibility and reliability in its check and remittance processing efforts. As part of FTNI’s ETran integrated receivables hub, the ETran RDC module delivers the ability to scan checks and remittance advices while seamlessly associating and storing all account and payment information in a PCI-compliant, secure, central location.

“In the past couple years we’ve worked on getting back to the basics, focusing on profitable efficiencies and preparing ourselves for another growth trend we’re entering,” said Shawn Parks, Business Manager at Parks & Sons. “A great example is our payment processing time. During our busiest invoicing cycles, ETran’s full automation reduced our payment processing time by 80% and significantly streamlined our auditing processes.”

Parks & Sons’ receivables clerks work with three separate items – coupons, checks and envelopes – for each remittance received. Previously, in addition to manually scanning and entering data associated with each coupon and payment, clerks also had to manually export batch files for input into the company’s back office AR system. With ETran now in place, the entire process is automated. Upon each coupon and check being scanned, data is automatically entered and associated with the appropriate customer account within the system. Time consuming, error-prone, manual data entry related to items such as change of address information, is now captured during the scanning process and posting files are automatically generated and uploaded into the company’s back office accounting system, facilitating true straight through processing and further streamlining legacy processes.

“ETran transformed our receivables processes and brought efficiencies to us we never expected. We no longer do any front-end auditing of our mailed in payments,” commented Parks. “Before, we had to audit 100% of our payments to find maybe 5% with changes or problems. Now we audit 0% on the front end and let ETran’s automation flag any issues. Due to that automation, we only need to audit that 5% with issues. The decrease in our time to process has been phenomenal.”

ETran also helped enrich the customer service experience at Parks & Sons. Accelerating payment processing timeframes significantly reduced inbound customer inquiries to the company’s call center related to payment status questions, saving time and money while allowing customer service staff to focus on more time-sensitive customer needs. For calls that do still involve payment questions, the company’s service staff now has a user-friendly, single interface to view all pending and processed payments in real-time, enabling them to quickly provide accurate information while answering customer questions or researching issues.

“From using enhanced RDC capabilities to significantly reduce the turnaround time to process check and remittance information, to leveraging a direct integration with their back office accounting system to enable straight through processing, Parks & Sons is a great example of the benefits companies can realize by moving their receivables to the cloud,” said Kurt Matis, president and CEO, FTNI. “We’re proud that Parks & Sons chose FTNI as a key partner in their decision to move their receivables processes and technology to the cloud and look forward to continuing to grow this successful relationship.”

“Working in the cloud with applications like ETran, we can go wherever we need to and we’re always ready to go,” said Shawn Parks, Business Manager at Parks & Sons. “Selecting FTNI as a strategic partner to get receivables into the cloud was an easy decision once we saw the value ETran could bring our company.”

FTNI at Waste Expo 2015

FTNI will be onsite exhibiting at Waste Expo 2015 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, June 2-4 in Las Vegas, NV. Visit FTNI in booth 4220 to learn more about this and other successful implementations of the ETran integrated receivables hub.
