DIRECTOR OF SANITATION

The Escambia County Utilities Authority (Pensacola, Florida) is seeking a Director of Sanitation for its full-service solid waste collection operation. This position is responsible for the planning, organizing, and direction of a 100-employee department. Services provided by the department include automated garbage collection, yard trash collection and bulky waste collection for 61,000 customers. In addition, the ECUA operates a commercial collection system utilizing front-load dumpsters and rolloff containers. The Director also provides oversight to a garage operation that is responsible for the maintenance of the sanitation fleet, consisting of approximately 80 collection vehicles.

Qualified applicants must demonstrate strong leadership skills, excellent interpersonal relations, and communication skills. In addition, the ideal candidate would have a strong background in the development and implementation of residential and commercial solid waste collection programs. A Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Public Administration, Engineering, Environmental Studies, or related field or an equivalent combination of training or experience is required. Applicants must have at least six (6) years of increasingly responsible solid waste management experience with an emphasis on management and supervision of a full-service collection operation.

Salary based on qualifications, and includes an excellent benefit package and paid relocation expenses in accordance with ECUA policy. Qualified applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and shall be subject to a full background investigation, drug screen and pre-employment medical exam.
