Harrisburg, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has announced $18 million in recycling grants for 58 Pennsylvania communities, as well as several brownfields grants to help local groups add sites available for the state's Land Recycling Program.
The recycling grants are designed to help the state achieve a recycling goal of 35 percent of the waste stream by providing funding for education, additional curbside collection and recycling-center improvements. The $18 million is in addition to the $6.5 million awarded for 31 communities that was announced on May 24.
The brownfields grant recipients each will receive $1,000 for every site listed on the PA SiteFinder, a website that contains brownfield sites, for up to a total of $50,000. To date, 31 recipients have earned $285,000 by putting brownfields sites on the list.
