Phoenix – Landstar Inc., Scottsdale, Ariz., signed an agreement with the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) to lease the property and purchase the buildings and equipment of the Waste-to-Energy Facility in Columbus, Ohio. The company will not use the Waste-to-Energy equipment and will try to dismantle the smokestacks. The plant has been vacant since it closed in 1994 because of financial and environmental reasons. Landstar Inc. plans to use devulcanization technology to initiate a rubber-recycling industry.
