Hawaii to Pilot Curbside Recycling Program

Honolulu -- Approximately 11,000 households in Mililani, Hawaii, a suburb of Honolulu, will participate in a four-month recycling pilot project that will determine whether all of Oahu will adopt a curbside recycling program. Residents are being asked to place aluminum, plastic, glass and newspaper in one container that will be picked up once per week. The program is scheduled to begin Nov. 3. The Honolulu City Council recently voted down a green waste and recyclables curbside collection program because it would have added a garbage bill that residents are not accustomed to seeing because their trash collection services are included in taxes.
