Washington, D.C. --The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched 10 test projects based on alternative approaches to waste reduction, including a version of environmental "product placement" on television shows, which would show characters exhibiting environmentally beneficial behavior. The EPA also is looking at a market-based approach for reducing chemical use and waste at universities and is exploring new ways to process food waste and its potential renewable energy applications. The programs will be paid for by an Innovation Pilot grant of $352,000. The goal of the initiative is to test various approaches to waste reductions, measure the results and get the information to the public.
