Peoria, Ill. – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Washington, D.C., has certified new clean diesel technology engineered by Caterpillar Inc. Advanced Combustion Emission Reduction Technology (ACERT) is a differentiated technology that reduces emissions at the point of combustion. The first Cat engine ACERT will be built into is the C9, which is used by refuse haulers and in dump trucks. The company says that full production of the C9 with ACERT will begin in the first quarter of the year and that all on-highway truck and bus engines will be equipped with ACERT by the fourth quarter of 2003.
