California Orders Older Garbage Trucks to De-Soot

Sacramento -- The California Air Resources Board has mandated that older garbage trucks be retrofitted to eliminate soot from diesel exhaust. The engines in approximately 12,000 trucks in California will have to be replaced, or anti-soot devices will have to be installed before 2010, according to news sources. The board is estimating these changes will result in an 85-percent reduction in pollution.
