America Recycles Day Rewards With Awards

Washington, D.C. – America’s Recycles Day has awarded $25,000 to seven organizations that held community recycling events, noting that they were winners of the organization’s annual contest.

While more than 850 recycling events were held around the country to celebrate America Recycles Day on Nov. 15, 2003, 28 companies entered the contest in hopes of winning a portion of the jackpot. Among the winners were: Keep Sandy Spring/North Fulton Beautiful, Atlanta, Ga.; Keep America Beautiful, Topeka/Shawnee County, Topeka, Kan.; Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful, Albany, Ga.; Virginia Waste Management Authority, Richmond, Va.; Motive Enterprises, Covent, La.; Broward County Board of Commissioners, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

The top winner was Fairfax County, Va., which received $7,500 for its series of events, including a marketing campaign for its recycling program, a community recycling road show and a trash bash at a fall festival.
