The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Washington, has honored Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Steelcase, a designer and manufacturer of office furniture, technology and architecture, for its efforts in waste prevention and recycling. The firm, which develops company-wide environmental initiatives and encourages employee involvement in conservation efforts, received a Gold Achievement Award in the Large Business Product Stewardship category and an Honorable Mention recognition in the overall Large Business category. Last year, Steelcase developed several environmentally conscious initiatives and products such as the Think Chair, a chair composed of recyclable materials.

The awards were presented by WasteWise, an 11-year-old EPA program that assists organizations with the elimination of municipal waste.
