SWANA Calls for Increased Waste Screening

In response to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recent revision to its secondary waste handling guidelines, the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), Silver Spring, Md., has advised its members about the importance of waste screening practices at municipal solid waste facilities.

"Municipal solid waste managers need to know where their wastes are coming from, and SWANA strongly encourages more vigilant practices to detect and screen out prohibited wastes," said John Skinner, executive director and CEO of SWANA, in a press release.

SWANA also is updating its training course for waste screening, which is expected to be finished by January.
