Silver Spring, Md. — The Solid Waste Association of North America, Silver Spring, Md., has announced the winners of its 2005 Excellence Awards. The winners will be recognized at a luncheon at WASTECON 2005 on Thursday, Sept. 29, in Austin, Texas. This year’s Excellence Awards include 13 separate awards, and a gold and silver winner for each award.
The gold winners are as follows: Collection System Award — Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority in Pennsylvania; Transfer Station Award — Waste Management of Arizona for the San Tan Transfer Station; Communication Award — City of Tacoma, Wash., Solid Waste Management; Public Education Award — Delaware Solid Waste Authority; Marketing Award — Southeastern Public Service Authority in Virginia; Landfill Management Award — Waste Management’s Outer Loop Recycling and Disposal Facility in Kentucky; Landfill Gas Control Award — King County, Wash., Solid Waste Division for its Cedar Hills Landfill; Landfill Gas Utilization Award — H2Gro-Innovative Energy Solutions; Special Waste Management Award — Pinellas County, Fla., Department of Solid Waste Operations; Solid Waste Management Systems Award — Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority in Pennsylvania; Composting Systems Award — Abington Township, Pa.; Recycling Systems Award — Ocean County, N.J., Department of Solid Waste Management; and Waste-to-Energy Award — Montgomery County, Md., Resource Recovery Facility.
