Republic Agrees to Sell Landfill Gas In Georgia

Phoenix-based Republic Services has sold the right to purchase landfill gas from its Hickory Ridge Landfill in Conley, Ga., to Global Energy Systems (GES), Summerville, S.C.

"Republic is very excited to add this project to our portfolio of more than 80 landfill-gas-to-energy projects,” said Bill Held, senior director of renewable energy for Republic, in a press release. “It complements our operations in the Atlanta area and the services and relationships we have with our customers there. [It also] furthers our goals of contributing to energy independence, sustainability and environmental stewardship,"

GES paid $3.35 million for the rights to the gas and also will pay royalties based on the revenues from the sale of the processed gas.
