Nissan plant named recycler of the year

Nissan North America’s powertrain assembly plant was named Tennessee Recycler of the Year for 2006. The Tennessee Recycling Coalition (TRC) presented the award to the Decherd, Tenn., based plant for its waste reduction efforts.

In 2006, the plant diverted more than 1,100 tons of waste from landfills. It also recycled more than 8,700 tons of scrap metal used in manufacturing engines as well as 94 percent of the waste materials that it generated.

“We hope their accomplishments will inspire others to research and implement recycling strategies,” said Christina Treglia, president of TRC, in a press release.
