Prism Business Media, organizer of the annual WasteExpo and parent company of Waste Age, has announced that it will debut the Global Waste Management Symposium (GWMS) in the fall of 2008. In a press release, organizers say the event is targeted at solid waste management facility owners, operators, designers, policymakers and regulators. The goal of the symposium is to promote technology and scientific innovation in the management of solid waste.
“A focus of this first symposium is to advance research on bioreactor [and] Next Generation Technology landfills,” says Greg Cekander, vice president of the Environmental Management Group at Waste Management Inc. and chair of the symposium’s business committee. “It is anticipated that the technical papers at this symposium will establish the bar in relation to full-scale landfill bioreactor operations.”
GWMS organizers say they are currently seeking commitments of financial support to help minimize potential registration costs for attendees. Inquiries for the symposium’s business committee, which will oversee venue selection, sales and marketing, and the identification of partners and sponsors, can be directed to Rita Ugianskis, group show director for Prism Business Media, at (813) 994-4654 or [email protected]. Questions for the technical committee, which will develop programming and publications for the symposium, should be directed to Mort Barlaz, technical committee chair, at (919) 515-7676 or [email protected] Organizers promise that additional information about the GWMS will be posted at www.landfillconference.com as it is finalized.
